Joseph Tamale Mirundi, a prominent figure in Ugandan media and politics, passed away on the night of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the age of 59.

Mirundi, who was known for his sharp wit and outspoken nature, succumbed to lung-related complications at St. Mary’s Kisubi Hospital, located on Entebbe Road. He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for over a month before his condition took a sudden turn for the worse.

Mirundi’s health had shown signs of improvement on the days leading up to his death, but on Tuesday, his condition deteriorated rapidly.

According to medical reports, he had been suffering from fluid accumulation in his lungs, a condition that required regular draining.

On the day of his passing, a complication arose during the procedure when blood was drawn instead of fluid, leading to his untimely demise.

Born in 1964 in Rakai District, Joseph Tamale Mirundi was a journalist, author, and political analyst. He was widely known for his fiery commentary on various media platforms, where he addressed political and social issues with an unapologetic stance.

Over the years, he became a household name in Uganda, contributing to numerous media outlets such as Radio 4, NBS TV, Top Radio, Beat FM, ABS TV, Impact FM, STV Uganda, Pearl FM, and Metro FM.

Mirundi served as the presidential press secretary for approximately 13 years until July 2015, when he was dismissed by President Yoweri Museveni.

Following his dismissal, he continued to serve as a presidential advisor on media matters, a role that allowed him to remain influential in the political landscape of Uganda.

In 2019, Mirundi made headlines when he revealed that he had been poisoned, though details of the incident remain unclear, and it is not known whether he fully recovered from the ordeal.

Joseph Tamale Mirundi was the son of Molly Namatovu and Yowana Mirundi. He received his education at Lubiri Secondary School before pursuing higher education.

He held a Bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a Master’s degree in Communication, which laid the foundation for his prolific career in media and politics.

Mirundi’s death marks the end of an era for many Ugandans who admired his boldness and tenacity.

His legacy as a journalist, political commentator, and advisor will be remembered for years to come.

May His Soul Continue Resting In Enternal Peace!
