Terrorism: Security burst plot to blow Entebbe Expressway

Security has learnt of a plot by terrorists to blow the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway in what appears an economic sabotage.

“The road is currently cordoned off and under investigation and search,” a security source said Wednesday morning.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander, SSP Kauma Nsererko said earlier that “This is to inform all road users who are using Entebbe Express Highway that there’s an investigation going by the Police Bomb Squad along the Expressway.”

“You are therefore requested to use the Old Entebbe Road to the City and to Entebbe for the time being until the investigations are done and normal traffic flow will restored. Please abide by the instructions from our traffic officers,” he added.

Acts of terrorism is not new in Uganda.

In November 2021, three suicide bombers killed three people near Parliament, an incident that sent members of parliament running for cover.

In July 2020, terrorists attacked Kyadondo Rugby Grounds and Ethiopian Village in Kampala and killed over 75 people.

By press time, the Expressway had been reopened to the public.
