Popular singer Nina Roz has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to supporting artists, focusing on handouts instead of enforcing copyright laws.

In a recent statement on TV, Roz questioned why the government is opting for temporary financial aid rather than ensuring proper copyright protection.

We want Copyright. Why are they silencing us, why are they giving us handouts?” Nina Roz said while appearing on Sanyuka TV.

Roz also directed criticism at Eddy Kenzo, President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).

She accused Kenzo of failing to meet his previous promises and criticized him for shifting the federation’s focus from its original goals to political issues and advocating for handouts.

Why are our fellow artists like Eddy Kenzo accepting handouts? He has overturned his promises from when the federation was first established, and now he is involving the federation in politics,” Roz added.

Nina Roz’s comments highlight ongoing frustrations within the Ugandan music industry regarding the management and support of artists’ rights and welfare.
