Police in Mwende district are holding three suspects in connection with the brutal mob killing of Mida, a 29-year-old driver.

The incident occurred on August 27, 2024, around 3:30 a.m. in Kayana village, Naluwondwa Parish, Madudu sub-county.

According to Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Mida had traveled to Kayana village with friends to collect banana leaves, which they planned to transport to Kampala. Upon arrival around 3:00 a.m., Mida’s friends checked into a lodge, while he chose to stay in the vehicle, registration number UBB 330Q, to guard against potential theft.

Shortly after, his friends heard a commotion outside. Rushing to the scene, they discovered that Mida was being attacked and the vehicle was set ablaze by an angry mob. The driver’s body was later found burnt in front of the charred vehicle.

The three suspects have been detained at Mwende Police Station to assist with investigations. The police have condemned the act of mob justice, stating that it not only violates the law but also endangers innocent lives.
